Introduction
It seems that somehow whenever a bunch of women get together, there is always a subgroup that ends up around the kitchen table swapping war stories on relationships, work, family, and life in general. For some reason, it seems I usually end up a part of such groups. As I shared my personal anecdotes and observations, these women always encouraged me to write them down. I finally took their advice and the result is In My Sister’s Shoes.
This book was written for every woman who has ever made bad choices and stubbed her toe or fallen down in the game of life. Sometimes when we are fighting our demons or going through our wilderness experience, we are convinced that we are the only person to have walked this road. It is my hope that In My Sister’s Shoes will help you to realize that others have been there before and survived and you will too. If it helps you avoid the bumps in the road, then my purpose for writing it will be fulfilled. If it helps you to dust yourself off and look up after you’ve fallen, then I will count it as a success. More importantly, I pray that it will encourage you to trust in God’s divine power and plans for your life. Sometimes we find ourselves in dire situations and can’t figure out how we got there.
Sometimes circumstances are beyond our control and alter our situation. However, most often our predicaments are the result of the choices we have made. None of us is immune to making poor decisions. They usually seem to make perfect sense at the time but wreak pain and crisis in our lives later. When we know better we’re expected to do better. However, we all try to do the best we can with what we know, no matter how inadequate the knowledge.
Just remember, when you find yourself in a mess of your own making, you are not destined to stay there forever. May just one kernel in this book encourage you to get up, clean yourself off and keep on keeping on. I know the getting up and getting on is not always easy because I have walked in your shoes, my sister. Just keep on praying and taking one step at a time.
Sometimes I include a scripture, song or thought I found particularly inspiring. It is my prayer that their words will find their way to the essence of your pain and serve as a healing balm.
